  3. Domain Name

Read more below to under the technical aspects of website hosting and domain names.

Website Hosting

When a website is built it will require hosting on a special computer called a server. These servers are connected to the internet 24hours a day and we will provide you with minimum 99.9% up time. We use fast national servers located in New Zealand to deliver the intelliCatalog service. For our international clients, we can optionally deliver your website via our USA platform.

There is a  difference in speed between the national and international servers due to the distance data must travel.

Each intelliCatalog installation includes the following hosting:

  1. 1x Domain name (ie. .nz, .com,  .au, .uk)
  2. 5x Pop3 email accounts/redirects

Additional domain names can be parked @ $3+GST/month
Additional POP3 email accounts can be setup @ $7.50+GST/month per 5

1x Domain and 5x Email hosting included

Domain Names

A domain name is required for your website. Internet users access your website using your domain name.  A domain name is the text name corresponding to the numeric IP address of a computer on the Internet. Domain names are renewed yearly usually inline with service package. You may have a domain secured by requesting it to be extended up to 10 years. You can use your domain for your email addresses as well. for example, jim@yourdomain.co.nz. We can provide this as a new email account or we can redirect to an existing email for example jim.ford@clear.net.nz

A domain name must be unique as each domain name can only be registered to one company or person in the world. If your domain name option is not available then you must find a name that is not yet registered.

Domain names can only be up to 63 charecters long in total. This includes the domain extension .com or .co.nz and excludes the www infront.

Domain names have two or more parts separated by dots.

  • The part on the left is the most specific and is usually your business name or describes your services and products offered.
  • The part on the right is the Top level domain (TLD). This refers to the suffix attached to domain names. There are two types of top level domain names, generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) and country code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) giving a range of suffixes An example of gTLD is .com, .net, .info and .biz. Examples of ccTLDs are .nz , au, .uk
